The owner of a vegetarian cafe in England has said she will not accept the new £5 notes recently issued by the Bank of England because they contain animal fat.
The move came after vegetarians and vegans across Britain began protesting the fact that the new notes contain tallow.
The cafe owner, Mrs. Meijland, said she had received terrifying online abuse since implementing the policy.
An online petition to replace the notes has so far gained several thousand signatures. According to UK law, once a petition reaches 100,000 signatures, parliament must debate the topic.
So far, the notes remain in circulation as more vegan and vegetarians refuse to accept and use them.
